They actually will charge you a " smog abatement" fee every year on your registration renewals. :-( until you have to smog it.

6 years before smog on new car, gas that is.....diesel every 2 years.

Also, with no tail sniffer now, only OBD plug in, I have heard of some cars
passing with mods, including mild cams.....all codes erased and if you
do not get tagged on visual.

Actually easier now to squeeze by with light mods with no sniffer.....
