Default SoCal C7 LT4 Stingray

Postung this as a question...for the C7 Corvette, have any SoCal shops installed the LT4 supercharger on the LT1? Also, since we are in SoCal most (if not all) counties require SMOG. Would the LT4 on the LT1 pass SMOG? I'm asking because LT4 superchargers seem to be a bit easier financially, but also want to consider long term that it may not if it won't be SMOG legal. Thanks

Well, the bottom line is you will have a power booster that did not come from the factory on your car. There will be no CARB E.O. number. While it will probably pass the test, it could fail the visual.

Have you considered the A&A kit? I believe it has a CARB number. I was considering it for my '15 Z51 until I decided to upgrade to a Z06 - just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.

I'm absolutely, 100% planning on doing an A&A at the moment. Just wanted to see options if the LT4 is capable to pass SMOG on the LT1 as an option. My car's a 2014 M7/Z51 with over 65,000.

I'm likely wrong, but I think the only other CARB approved supercharger we can use here in CA is the Eforce. But I really haven't researched the other options lately. So could be wrong on that.

I'm not very informed on all the rules and particulars, but was thinking since the supercharger was a "factory" part. Why wouldn't a "factory" part pass CA emissions? If it's even that simple?

I think the car has to come from the factory as original equipment to just get a pass like that. I'm sure I'm oversimplifying it.

Thanks, and definitely appreciate your input. Just asking a question hopefully it'll draw the interest of some experts and they can clear it up. I mean, I can add a Chevy Performance air intake, radiator, etc. Why couldn't I add the LT4. Wouldn't think it would effect air quality just because it's on another factory engine, does it? Pretty much all of these engines are the same...LT1 on 6th Gen Camaro. Just pondering.

I'm no expert but I looked into this pretty heavily a few years ago (or more...)

CARB will see a factory supercharger as an after market modification. If this modification has not been approved by CARB then it doesn't pass. While I am sure some enthusiasts will tell you there are ways around that, bottom line is a sharp smog inspector notice that an LT$ configured engine is in a standard C7 and flunk it outright. Then you will have to remove the supercharger.

You can install a crate LT4 in your car. There are several tuners who would be more than happy to take that job. Apparently if the engine is also factory installed on a vette it can be acceptable to CARB. But you would have to get it approved by a Smog referee. If the referee decides it isn't smog worthy, then you are stuck with a crate engine in your car that you can't register.

A&A has a supercharger kit that has been proven to work and gets great results on the C7. They also have the CARB E.O. number making smog test and registration a breeze. Andy is also a great guy to deal with.

Great input, thanks! I've been interested in supercharging for quite a while, just never took the time to figure out what I want to do. I've gotten my plan together for doing an A&A, but getting side tracked by the $2500 LT4 "kits" got me thinking. If what you've described is true, I'm going with A&A base kit. I'm looking to add power, but not looking to win the Indy500 (if that makes sense) and have to be able to pass SMOG.
