Job transfer to San Antonio
I've posted this in O/T, but could use more info. Does anyone know of some good zipcodes to live in in San Antonio? I ask for zip codes because it makes it alot easier to do research on the web. Subdivision titles help too. I've never been there, and can use alot of help. My job will be on the north side of town (main mail processing plant), and because of child support, can afford only about 120K. I have no problem with fixer uppers, since that's all I've bought in the past. Thanks (Page62 and Big duece have been a big help!)

North side is hot right now, I'm not sure how much you can get for $120k. The Northwest or Northeast sides are probably more what you are looking for.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can probably afford only around $120K as I make about $48K(gross) a year, and Ohio takes $968(net) a month for child support for my son and daughter. It's almost like living on one check a month. Probably look into HUD or fixer uppers in the best neighborhood I can afford. I'll definately have a garage and house alarm just so the vette stays safe.

You'd be hard-pressed to find anything outside 1604 in your price range. Plus growth is choking the whole 1604 corridor. Traffic backs up for MILES at many of the major intersections during rush hour. In the past 2 years, Helotes has become totally gridlocked (not to mention smoke-covered due to the world's largest mulch fire. But that's another story.) JJ Deuce moved OUT of the Helotes area just in time to see his old neighborhood become practically inaccessible due to rapid growth and heavy traffic.
There are many nice, older neighborhoods closer to Loop 410 that are starting to see some decent price appreciation (i.e., good investment potential). And being older neighborhoods, there are always some "handyman specials" to be found.

This advice may have been valid 2 years ago, but things have changed. Fast.
