Default Significant Other Cruise

This post will be updated as more information comes in regarding locations and times, but I wanted to start the process of getting an idea of who all would be interested in doing something along these lines.

Basically, my idea was to get a group of us together, and also bring our better halves, and go on a tamer cruise rather than our typical cruises through the backroads of Texas. The path would be more of a scenic route with the possibility of stopping at a few places for pictures (of the people rather than cars), you know how they like to remember things. At this point I was looking at doing an all-day Saturday cruise, but one of the people I talked to, Michael, mentioned that he would be up for an overnight cruise. His idea was to head down to San Antonio for a Saturday night and then return on Sunday. I am up for either one, but I wanted to see which way would get us more participation.

My reasons for doing this are simple. My fiancee has never truly been happy with the purchase of my car, she's always seen it as something that takes up time that I could be spending with her. In hopes of providing a different viewpoint for her, I am proposing a way for her to participate with me. I know that she is more than welcome on the traditional cruises we do, but that would actually make the situation worse as she would not approve of the way I drive, not that I break any laws... Furthermore, she has met a few of the women that claim some of y'all as theirs and apparently enjoys talking with them, it's a conspiracy I tell you.

Now for the part where I attempt to remain politically correct...

This is not intended to exclude women or single drivers. Women are more than welcome to bring their fiances, boyfriends, or husbands along to, we will try not to laugh and poke fun. Also, single people are more than welcome to come, just be aware that this is intended for couples, so don't bitch and moan if you feel left out.

Finally, although I enjoy kids, sometimes, let's try to keep the young ones home, the conversations usually don't get any cleaner than PG-13.

My time frame is fairly open, looking at sometime in January or February, and will likely have a primary weekend and a backup in case of inclement weather. What I need from y'all now is a simple yes or no as to whether you are interested and if you prefer 1-day or overnight, but if you have ANY suggestions, comments, or questions, please post up.

Count me in for a day cruise. FYI, I will be posting info for an overnight cruise to San Antonio via the hill country. The tentative date for that is cruise is Jan 24th.

Here's an idea I kicked around a while back - A backroads cruise to the outlet mall in San Marcos or the closer one to Hillsboro.

I never met a female yet who couldn't get excited about a dedicated shopping trip. Might have been a better pre-Christmas run, but that wouldn't stop my wife.

That would probably create some draw from those that find our hobby less than appealing.

I'm definitely interested.

What about a cruise where we end up at a place that has lots of quaint little antique shops? Maybe Fredricksburg? When our club does our spring cruise, we go thru several charming towns and I've always wished that we could stop and browse the shops a little more.

I think a run down to the hill country area for overnight would be a great time, but I am up for an one day run also. I know some people dont "get" our fascination, particularly some of the better halves, but I always felt that once they actually go on a cruise and realize, its about the people, the great scenic views and just enjoying like minded individuals, and of course seeing some cool cars, well how could you not have a blast? I think sometime in Feb, would be great, plenty of time to get everyone together and make a great run.

I'll start looking around for some small towns that will have some quaint shops and a good place to eat. Once I find a location, I'll likely need some help planning a good route from someone who knows the roads. Again, this will be a significantly tamer cruise there and back, we don't want to make a bigger issue...

One place I am going to be looking into is Meers, OK, it's just that it's a 3+ hour drive one-way. However, they apparently have the World Famous Meers Burger.

I guess a "cruise" that slow is more your style anyway...

I would also point out that Fredricksburg does have a pretty darn good brewery right in the middle of the quaint little shops.

Might as well through in another, Real Ale in Blanco. Micro-brewed is good, Real Ale is great.

Love the idea, even though I'm a newb.

But we're dealing with significant others, we cannot use common sense.
