Houston (TX) BBQ recommendations
We will be visiting my brother in Katy later this year and will be doing some work on his fully restored `64 Coupe. But what I need from you guys are recommendations for the best Texas barbeque in the Houston area! I have been reading some online reviews, but those just confuse the issue. I'm looking for the best brisket in Texas!!
And cold beer would be a plus............

Don't know about Katy in general, but just up I-10 is Goode Company BBQ, Bingle exit. I have not eaten there in a while but every time I had, it was excellent. Grand Prize is also very good, but too far from Katy.

back 40 - thanks for the recommendation. Where is Grand Prize? We plan on seeing as much of the area as possible, so distance from Katy (or Houston) is not a problem. We are planning a fishing trip in the Gulf and maybe a hog hunt, so we will be traveling several hundred miles around the Houston area.

Grand Prize is in Texas City, exit 1764 (Palmer Highway), Palmer becomes Main St. once your in Texas City. They are a couple miles down past Hwy 146. It's sort of on the way to Galveston. You have to try their jalapeno bread with the brisket.

I personally like Otto's on Memorial Drive, just east of Westcott, for barbecue. It's about 4 miles west of Downtown. President #41 goes there.
Goode Co is good barbecue, but I like Otto's better. There's also a Goode Co on Kirby Drive about 1/2 mile south of the Southwest Freeway (US-59). Now, Goode Co Seafood is really great, too. Best place for cornmeal-breaded fried shrimp.
I just wouldn't try Pappas Barbecue.

Here's a third for Goode Co. We frequent the Kirby location whenever we get a hankerin' for BBQ.
Otto's is very good also.
Hickory Hollow on Heights S. of I-10 is also very good.
DON'T bother with Pappa's or Luther's, local chains. They are just ok at best, IMO.
I haven't been there in awhile, but there is a really good BBQ place in Fulshear, Dozier's, that's not too far from Katy since you'll be out that way already.

I grew up in Pearland, and it is good, but I liked it better 25 years ago.
Need to go up to central Texas out in the hill country for the best BBQ. Salt Lick outside Austin is good, but I think the best is Coopers in Llano.
Another good one in Houston is a Austin Chain called Rudy's there is one on 290 near BW 8, don't let the gas station fool ya there is awesome bbq in there!
