Default Texas Antique License Plate

I just registered my 1985 Oldsmobile as an antique this morning.
I was issued one license plate, and no window or plate sticker. The new plate had 03/13 silk screened on it.
One plate, I wonder if that is a hint of what is coming, we can only hope.

I bought it new in June 1985. It's a Calais 2 door with a 5 speed. Last week it turned 146,000 miles.
In September, I entered it an Oldsmobile Club of America zone show, and brought home the Chairman's Choice Award, for most unique and best preserved original.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no. The ugly government-issue blue and orange Antique plate has been single for a long, long time. It portends nothing.

But...if you get a set of year-of-manufacture plates, you need to install them both. Go figure!

very sweet beater! Funny you have a Calais, I had a Calais hand me down when I was in high school. I think it was an 85 or 86... white, auto-matic... and when my mom, sister & I were done it was a true BEATER!

Default Tx plates

Also, I think the Texas antique registration exempts you from state inspection.

A lot of folks don't seem to know the difference between antique and classic registration. I have never understood the point of the classic registration. Not only does it cost $15 MORE per year, but it also requires annual inspections!

When you get Texas Antique Vehicle plates, your car no longer requires a state inspection because you have agreed to only drive your car to and from shows, parades, and car club events. If you want to drive your car for other activities, you are asked by the state of Texas, to obtain classic car plates. Like many things, it works on the honor system since no one will come check your car's mileage or see if you drive it to work one day.
