Default Texas Smoke Detectors

Texas Landlords (& Tenants?). Getting close to the deadline to get smoke detectors in all rental units bedrooms and hallways. Landlords have until 1-1-13 to comply.

State law calls for all rental units to have a smoke detector in every bedroom, in each hallway that services multiple bedrooms and on each level of a dwelling unit.

More expense for little value. Most of my rentals have the required detectors but the tenants either pull the battery out the first time they burn a pizza and set it off or they decide their kids toy needs the battery.
