Default What are the smog laws in Austin Texas?

I have a 2005 C6 corvette that I'm looking to build up with 800 to 1000 hp engine. I currently live in the soviet socialist republic of California where the smog ***** reside. I have an opportunity to move to Austin Texas and was wondering how strict the smog laws are in that area. Any information is greatly appreciated

On paper the laws are the same as Calif.

Visual and OBD2 plug in for codes every year. You can probably find a place that won't/can't/doesn't do any of the visual but no guarantees.

Really? that's kind of depressing. All the big power corvettes come from Texas. How are people getting around such strict smog laws?

Most shops don't do the visual inspection unless your car comes in smelling like raw gas.

There is no sniffer test, just OBD2. So as long as your ECU thinks everything is fine, you'll pass that part.

Different laws for different parts of Texas. Major cities/suburbs have 1 set of laws, the rest of the state has other regs.

Sorry, you have to be inspected where you live (No rural Inspections for city dwellers).

Plenty high hp (700+) c5/c6s along with other cars in the Austin area that pass inspection fine. It was actually a big factor in the type of car I bought. Any competent tuner should be able to make it pass fine.

They're won't be looking for carb #s on your blower/turbo kit. It's much easier than cali inspection.

BTW Prepare to pay almost-cali-housing price in Austin. It's the fastest growing most in-demand area of the state.
