Good to hear the roads were good, wish we could have gone this time but we will get to do it again on a mid week day next year probably in March.

I agree. Check with the locals and find out the two-or-three week period during which the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush are blooming. That additional color makes for an absolutely spectacular ride.
If you could arrive on a Friday evening, you could drive all day Saturday - the Holy Trinity plus other roads - and then drive back Sunday. That way, you could cover every road, and some of them both directions. Taking RR 337 west-to-east is dramatically different from east-to-west. So are the "river roads" west of Kerrville.
There are back roads routes from the DFW area to Kerrville (going through Cleburne, Meridian, Hamilton, Goldthwaite, San Saba, Llano, etc.) that are very scenic and, because there isn't any traffic, actually much quicker (elapsed time-wise) than going down I-35 to Austin, then going west.
