Default Tuning in Houston - Bad mileage H/C/I

Hello there everyone,

I have an '02 C5Z with a 230/230 114LSA cam in it. It also has a Callaway Honker Intake, ARH headers, ported TB, etc. No idea what injectors are in it.

I get the P0155/P0154 intermittently and I get the CEL when it does trigger.

The car gets pretty bad mileage, and I'm pretty sure I can see what I believe to be gas puddling in the exhaust tips during prolonged periods of idling (it smells like gas, evaporates like gas.... tastes like gas... ).

Who in Houston would be able to do a full tuning/diagnostic on the car? I mean dyno, road test, the works. I also would like to see about having a conservative tune done just for mileage since it's a daily driver.

I ask this because I've heard horror stories from many people in Houston that go with the big shops only to be let down.

Thanks for any tips.

I used D3PE and I'm happy with the results.

We would be glad to take care of it for you. We will definitely find out exactly what injectors you have and then tune the car properly. We can daignose anything that needs to be addressed before strapping her down to dyno. Please feel free to call shop anytime to make an appointment. We are pretty booked up but should be able to get you in beginning of next year if we cant before the holidays.

I thought England Green is no longer performing tunes on vehicles they didn't perform the engine mods on?

HP Motorsports opened a few months ago in Katy right near 10 & 99. A few friends and I have had great success with our stuff there. Their tuner took plenty of time on the drivability part of the tune to make sure it was the best possible.

Jay the owner even told one of my friends put down $150 on the tune and drive it for 3 days if not happy then no more $ would be owed. He was very happy with his tune as we all were.

Yes, pretty much. The reasons are manifold :

We stopped tuning ANY cars we did not build in 2013. We only take on dyno tunes of modified cars now with the understanding that we will not guarantee drivability. At all.

The reason : far too many vehicles came to us to be tuned that were not ready to be tuned. Vacuum leaks, boost leaks, dirty MAF, loose rocker arms, incorrect pushrod length, methanol leaking, fuel problems, spark problems, oiling problems, PCV problems, mechanical problems, O2 sensors not working, clogged cats, wrong MAF, wrong injectors, failing fuel pump, electrical problems - the list is endless. And in all cases, the customer blamed "the tune" and wanted us to own their problem car and fix it for free. Or drop everything and fix their car. No thanks. Not happening. It was not worth the hassle.

I know, I know - it's harsh, but we are a business not a charity.

Just last week I took on a H/C Vette to be tuned. Strapped it down, did an initial run, major misfire at 5500rpm. Car was supposed to be "ready to be tuned". Could we fix it? Of course we could. Did we fix it? Nope, customer was saving his pennies and did not want to spend labor money on diagnosis, troubleshooting and fix. Unstrapped car, no charge to customer, a big waste of our time.

So now we will dyno tune modified cars - but we will not be responsible for any problems with the car. Especially drivability because there are a thousand things that could affect drivability besides the tune.

sounds about right. I have even seen shops charge a pre dyno diag fee ($100-$150) for cars they didn't assemble to find any probs before it goes on the dyno.

Tow trucks work the same way. I have a buddy that owns one. Just to get him to start the truck its a $45 dollar fee, that way if a customer flakes out after he gets there he's already covered his cost.

HP Motorsports is a great choice. Also Late Model Racecraft (LMR), and KP Racing are 3 choices you can't go wrong with. Yes, I have had work done by all 3 shops and have had only great experiences.

Good luck!

LMR won't ever see a dime of my money until the end of time.

I've already spoken with Stephen, still need to schedule something out.
