TX DPS is on a roll .........Again
Just a heads up to all my TX Corvette brothers and sisters. The DPS is on the warpath again over no front plates. Yesterday afternoon on US 83 just north of Leaky, after spending the day on the Twisted Sisters, I get pulled over for no front plate on the new '16. The trooper issued me a warning which was very decent of him. He did advise me that it would behoove me to get the front plate mounted asap as they have been advised by Austin Hq to really start enforcing the statute. Mine is now on !

1 year and counting. No issues. There are a lot of no-front-plate cars around here too. Downtown Dallas. I also don't drive the car but 2 times a week.

Obviously, the less you drive it, the lower your chance of getting stopped for no front plate. Also, this is something the TXDPS is really after. Most LEOs don't care. Since TXDPS doesn't patrol city streets you're probably OK. However, avoid any of the Toll Roads or Interstates in the area, as those are TXDPS turf.

Maybe where you live but I see DPS Troopers stop cars in towns and cities across the state.... of course, I DO drive a lot.
I put the front plate on the C7 after getting stopped twice, but I still have not put the front plate on the F-car. Ferrari never made a front plate holder for US cars as only 130+ were imported.

I'll gladly pay the ticket over and over and over.

It's been several years since I got my last warning (knock on wood) so I am probably coming due for another since neither my '15 Corvette or my wife's '10 Camaro run front plates. Several members of our club have put their front plates on since they live just west of Ft Worth and the Troopers are very active on I-35 out that way. One member got two in one day, one when she was going into Ft Worth and the second one on her way back home. That was enough for her, she put the plate on.

FYI, even if you are out of state with no front plate and it's the law for your state (Texas) to run one, you are free game. I got nailed in Maryland by a LEO two miles from the state line because my hood bra covered my plate.....cost me $80 for that one

So I live in Pennsylvania which doesn't have a front plate. I'm not bragging, I am thinking what the heck makes not having one such a big deal for any state. Are we less safe? Are the law enforcement people any safer? What is Pennsylvania doing wrong? Add to that I can drive through Texas and they can't ticket me. If I was a threat to Texas you wouod think they would. You would think Texas and the other states should not make front pates and help save the environment.

I am happy I refuse to live in a state that has a front plate. I did live in Texas for two years but my Corvette in those days was designed for two plates. My sarcasm was to point out how useless politicians are when they have time to concern themselves with the number of license plates.

And this is exactly why after only 1 year of new registration (lower tax purposes), I re-registered my 2013 Z06 in another state. The trade off: Texas has front plate laws and stupid large inspection/registration window decals, but cheap registration fees.
Arizona has no front plate law, no emissions check where I am, no stupid window decals, but higher registration fees. The registration fees cost 16% of the vehicle value, decreasing by 16% each year therafter. To reach the low Texas State registration fees, my Vette would have to be close to 15 years old. Some would think the expenses for registeration fees over the 15 year period are well worth the front plate/window decals trade off. It sucks, but it is what it is.
