I think folks are getting waaaayyyyyyy too wound up for nothing.
It now appears that people sending their registrations in via USPS First Class mail are being received (obviously based on distance from Corpus Christi) and the numbers are now only in the low 200's.
Based on that I'm confident that if you sent your registration out Friday (no matter what method) that you will have no problem getting in to the event.
For those who choose to wait to register then I would be more concerned about finding hotel rooms than what # in line you end up for registration.
On the up side there will be many folks that register and then will be unable to attend. I actually have a registration and hotel room in reserve I have held back in case a close friend is able to attend that I will make available to forum members closer to the event if he cannot work it in to his schedule.

Listen,
Please understand that we are doing the best we can to accommodate everyone the best way possible. The time and date goes by when the package is received and in the order in which they are received. This is the way we have always done our event since 2007 and this is why we have stressed to everyone to use UPS, Fed Ex or USPS express services. We received several regular mail entries yesterday and we have called the first 260 and are currently working on calling more people this morning. We are at 347 received entries as of last night. We also need to remember not to lose sight of why we are truly doing this event! We are doing it in remembrance of those that lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks and all of the brave men and women that have paid the price to keep us free! Thank you for everyone's understanding in this matter.

I'll take it if he cannot make it.

No, as the registration forms indicate, I own two Grandsports and had originally intended to take both cars but my wife is thinking of us taking just one Grandsport together.
I have a close friend who owns several Corvettes and is considering going to the event but his business schedule precludes scheduling events this far out. I mentioned to him that I will have the 2nd registration available if he decides later that he would like to attend.
If we get to August and we don't want to take both our cars and my friend does not want to attend then I will make the registration and hotel room available to another forum member that wanted to go but was unable to get in (assuming the event sells out of course).

There is another aspect to getting Hotel rooms. Many people may have booked rooms quite a while ago. Those room reservations may be canceled as people decide they cannot make it or they did not make the event numbers.
I would suggest to get wait listed, if they allow that at the Hotel you prefer.
