Default Plasti Dipped C7 Chrome Wheels - pic heavy

Posted this in the C7 General Section...

Bought 6 cans of PlastiDip a few weeks ago, finally decided to use them.

Started the job on a Friday night by removing the wheels and giving a thorough cleaning with Simple Green twice and then wiped them down with IPA just to make double sure there was no wax or other type of residue on the wheels. Made sure they were dry as a bone prior to starting the job as well. Inserted large index cards in the lip between the rim and tire, you don't need to do this as the PlastiDip will peel right off if you get it on the tire but I just decided to be a bit neater and doing so also corralled some of the overspray.

I started with 2 light coats and then started applying thicker coats....I applied a total of 6 coats on the wheels...I also bought Glossifier but decided to leave them flat at this time. I made sure to cover the valve stems with masking tape and also put washers where the lug nuts meet the rim so as to not have any PlastiDip there to rip when tightening down the lug nuts (which are also black now as well as the valve stem caps which were originally silver)

Additionally I removed and took apart the rim center caps and added 3M Carbon fiber vinyl to them and reassembled them...

The above are the words...below are the pictures...starting with before..then the work...then the before and after....hope you like

I also blacked out a lot of the other chrome on the car....only chrome left is the NPP Exhaust Tips and the Chrome crossed flags in the center caps...

The center caps themselves pop out with a push once you have the wheels off...to take the chrome ring and crossed flag assy apart all you need to do is pry them off slowly and carefully (with your hands) off of the cap itself...apply the 3M Carbon Fiber and then re-assemble using the crossed flag assy as something to help keep the vinyl on as well....

Hope that answers your question

Looks great! Good job man. I like it better than the chrome myself. Looks meaner.

Thanks...key is the initial prep of the surface...if that's not done properly the whole job could be messed up...
