FRUSTRATED; please help: Dorman TPMS & 2000 C5
I bought the Dorman Multi-Fit tool in a kit that included 4 TPMSs.
Current question: does the Dorman TPMS need to be inside of a tire with air applied in order to program to the car?
I know how to do the TPMS programming to the car. (I have magnet that works fine with my OEM sensors and wheels.)
I know how to program the sensors to the type of car (which I have done.)
I bought aftermarket wheels and tires for my car, and am trying to program these brand new Dorman TPMS to the car BEFORE I have them mounted in the wheels. (I bought wheels/tires already mounted.)
Before I have one of the aftermarket wheel/tire pairs broken down and a Dorman TPMS installed, I am trying to get the TPMS to at least link to the car while it's in my hand.
IT WON'T FRICKING LINK! None of the 4 of them will. I have taken the TPMS to the back of the car with the magnet to try and be closer to the receiver. No dice. I have tried several (and stacked) magnets.
What am I doing wrong?
I know that the TPMS/FOB receiver of the 97-100 can have issues, but all my factory stuff works fine including factory TPMSs and FOBs. (It's a 2000 with only 16K miles. Everything with the car is perfect.)
Any help/insight/experience is appreciated.
I could upgrade to the newer Receiver/TPMS/FOBs, but at this point, I'm not interested in doing so, as I don't want to mess with the factory original wheels/tires. I'd rather be able to switch back and forth between aftermarket wheels (with Dorman TPMS) and factory setup at any time.
