5 Fast Cars That The Grand Sport Blows Away
The Corvette Grand Sport might be known more for it's handling prowess than outright speed, but that doesn't mean it can't outrun these five fast cars.
1. Mustang Shelby GT350
The Corvette Grand Sport isn't the fastest Corvette you can buy, by any means. Rather, it's a real corner carver capable of pulling 1.18 gs on the skidpad. But it still runs from 0-60 in only 3.9 seconds and completes the quarter mile in only 12.2 seconds, making it a perfectly capable straight line bruiser.
That's good enough to make mincemeat of another track car for the street - the Mustang Shelby GT350. Ford's latest hi-po pony car can only muster a 4.3-second 0-60 run and a 1.4-mile time of 12.5 seconds. Even if you opt for the hotter GT350R, it will only match the Grand Sport's acceleration times. Plus it'll cost you roughly eight grand more than the Corvette.
2. Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack
The Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack is built with straight line speed in mind. It's naturally aspirated, 392 ci V8 produces an impressive 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, and the ZF-designed TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is designed to bang out lightning quick shifts. The Dodge even comes with launch control. But those features can't overcome a hefty 4,261-pound curb weight. The result is a 4.2-second 0-60 time and standing 1/4 mile of 12.6 seconds.
3. Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE
Chevrolet's latest and greatest version of the SS is the 1LE, which receives a host of upgrades for 2017. That includes 455 hp/455 lb-ft of torque from a 376 ci small block LS. But despite packing roughly 500 pounds less weight than the Dodge Challenger, it could only muster a 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds. The quarter mile rings in at 12.4 seconds, making the 1LE yet another victim at the hands of the Grand Sport.
4. BMW M3
The latest iteration of the legendary BMW M3 ditches it's old V8 powerplant for a twin turbo, twin intercooled V6. The new mill produces 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, which represents a bump of 11 hp and 111 lb-ft over the outgoing 4.0 liter V8 model. The new M3 is also 100 pounds lighter than it's predecessor, but it still falls short of outrunning our Corvette. The new M3 recorded a 4.1-second 0-60 time and a 12.4-second quarter mile.
5. Lexus RC F
The hot version of the Lexus RC coupe features a base price a full ten grand higher than the Corvette Grand Sport, but it's performance lags far behind. The RC F receives 467 hp and 389 lb-ft of torque from an aluminum block/headed V8, but that isn't enough to offset a very heavy 4,048-pound curb weight. That mass slows things down to the tune of a 4.3-second 0-60 time and 12.8-second quarter mile.
