1. 1956 Corvette Summits Pikes Peak

On September 9, 1955, a man named Zora Arkus-Duntov set a sedan class record by more than two minutes by driving a disguised 1956 Corvette with a V-8 engine to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado. He ascended the 4,303 meter summit in just 17 minutes, 24.05 seconds. What followed was an extensive advertising campaign from Chevrolet with billboard and newspaper ads appearing all over the country, highlighting Corvette’s superior vehicle safety and handling.

2. ZR-1 Sweeps at Fort Stockton

Back in 1990, it was the time of the generation of the C4 Corvette. On March 1st of that year, the ZR-1 set seven international and world records at a test track in Texas, one being for the highest 24 hour-5,000 mile land-speed. Reaching over 175 mph, the ZR-1 was very fast for its time. Here are the records from that day:

  • 100 miles (160 km) at 175.600 mph (282.601 km/h)

  • 500 miles (800 km) at 175.503 mph (282.445 km/h)

  • 1,000 miles (1,600 km) at 174.428 mph (280.715 km/h)

  • 5,000 km (3,100 mi) at 175.710 mph (282.778 km/h) (World Record)

  • 5,000 miles (8,000 km) at 173.791 mph (279.690 km/h) (World Record)

  • 12 Hours Endurance at 175.523 mph (282.477 km/h)

  • 24 Hours Endurance at 175.885 mph (283.059 km/h) for 4,221.256 miles (6,793.453 km) (World Record)

3. World's Fastest Z06

Holding the record for passing the ¼ mile at just 9.3 seconds is the procharged Advanced Modern Performance Corvette C7 Z06. With 1,000 rear-wheel horsepower, this beast also just set the world record for the standing-mile.

4. GXE Electric Corvette Beats Own Record

In July of this year, Genovation’s all-electric Corvette, also known as the GXE, set a new record for the standing mile by reaching 205.6 mph. This is impressive, considering its first pass back in February recorded 186.8 mph. Cranking out roughly 700 hp, the GXE aims to be the world’s fastest street-legal car that’s all-electric. Move over, Tesla! It’s only natural for this title to go to a Corvette.

5. Most Expensive Corvette

In 2014 at the Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, a 1967 Corvette L88 Coupe was sold for a whopping $3.85 million, setting the record for the most money a Corvette has ever sold for.

6. Corvette Dragon Cruise Record

In October of 2015, 423 Corvette owners lined up their rides to drive on the Tail of the Dragon, a road set alongside the North Carolina-Tennessee state line. They set the world record for the “Dragon cruise,” beginning what will hopefully be a long-lasting tradition for Corvette enthusiasts to enjoy together and make history.

7. Longest Time Restraining a Car

On July 26, 2015, an Austrian strongman named Gerald Gschiel physically restrained a Corvette Z06 at full throttle for 22.33 seconds. The event took place in Mainz, Germany where Gschiel succeeded in securing this Guinness World Record. Click here to watch video footage documenting how he did it.
