Unique Effort

Over the years, more than one artist has tried their hand at imagining what the next-generation Corvette may look like, while others have simply reinvented existing models. America's sports car has that kind of appeal, of course, which is why it has earned its fair share of fans over the years. The latest effort comes to us from ArtCenter student Xusheng Zhao, who penned this intriguing all-electric Corvette that takes quite a bit of styling influence from the C7-gen car, as Autoweek recently discovered.

Corvette Feeling

If your immediate first thought is that the Corvette in these renderings looks more like a C7 than the C8, well, that's by design. "Maybe the mid-rear powertrain in the C8 Corvette is more suitable for the race track, but I like the front-engine C7 - just the way it looks, the proportions, the potential for a big frunk. It just gave me a very Corvette feeling," Zhao said.

Electric Avenue

Zhao was recently tasked with completing his senior thesis, and for that, he couldn't resist giving us a peek at what he believes the Corvette will look like in the future. As such, he also had to eschew ICE power in favor of electricity, which makes sense as much as we hate to admit it.

Gran Turismo

The result is more than just a sports car, but rather, a gran turismo of sorts - the kind of car that one can drive long distances and enjoy every second of that journey. In that regard, the lack of an engine up front provides plenty of cargo space for all sorts of things - ranging from luggage to skis for a weekend trip up to the mountains.

Do It All

"If you're in California you want to go to (local ski resort) Big Bear for snowboarding - you can just put the snowboard in the car and just go," Zhao said. "You're driving a car that's very stunning on the outside at the same time. It's so practical you can do anything with this car. That's my vision for this car - you can do everything in it."

Intriguing Idea

And that's perhaps the most interesting thing about this concept - Zhao believes that the mid-engine Corvette could stick around as the more track-focused iteration, while this EV grand touring machine could represent something a bit more comfy for longer trips. It fits perfectly within GM's plan to make the Corvette a family of models rather than just one car, and we're certainly intrigued by that idea.
