Everedy and Shab Row's 10th Annual Corvette Show
This 10th annual coming out party for Corvettes in Maryland, and the surrounding areas, went down over the weekend of July 15th. Click through some of the sweet Corvettes that came out to enjoy the sun and compliments.
1. A great day to show off
For the past nine years, members of the Corvette Club have met in Fredrick, Maryland for an annual meet at Everedy Square and Shab Row. This year's event saw cars as early as a 1962 C1 (in the background of this picture), giving onlookers a chance to see a piece of automotive history, plus every era of Stingray. 2. Everyone wants a Corvette
Corvette owner and club member, Jim Hamilton, recounted his the effect seeing his first Vette had on him, “When I was 15 years old, I was sitting in front of a soda shack drinking Cokes when a 1963 split-window Corvette coupe drove by and was teasing everyone. That’s when he had his first feeling of, "Wow, I want a car like that.” Hamilton now owns a 2001 C5 Corvette and his wife owns a 1981 C3 Stingray with an automatic transmission.
3. Something for everyone
During the meet, visitors are invited to check out the more than 50 Corvettes parked throughout the area and talk to the car's owners. Guests are also encouraged to take part in the voting process that will determine which Corvette is the People's Choice Award for the year, in its respective generation. However, that isn't the only award being handed out during the meet. There are more than 20 other awards in various categories for the show that goes from 10 AM to 4 PM.
4. The love runs deep
Mike Hamilton, another owner present at the show, remarked how a bicycle ride past a dealership to see the 1963 Stingray changed his life. “I was about 12 years old and they had a bright blue one on the first-floor showroom,” he said. “My brother and I must have ridden there at least once a week, and I would sit there, saying, ‘I’m going to get one of these someday.’”
5. And the winner is....
For the award of People's Choice AND Drivers' Choice went to the restored red 1962 C1 convertible (seen in the first slide). Usually, the awards for these categories go very differently, with show guests tending to vote for their favorite colors, rather than the condition and modifications were done to the car. Meanwhile, the owners vote according to which are the most original models, said the club president Jim Brown, but this year's meet was the first time that both people and drivers voted for the same car.
6. Words from the winner
Ron Hamilton, owner of the 62, went on to say that the restoration was a labor of love for the heavily damaged C1 Vette. He first purchased the car in Ohio, and spent seven years refurbishing it with encouragement from Tina, his high school and current sweetheart. Ron remarks that the early Corvettes for him were always the quintessential sports car. “They (the 1st generation) just have that Corvette look,” he said. “I don’t know how else to describe it. They look the most like a sports car, while the later models kept getting bigger and bigger.”
