1320video’s Big Race Between Unicorn C5 and ‘Leroy’ the Corvette

By -

Two vastly different builds finally go head to head for roll and dig racing.

If you’ve been watching the battle between 1320video’s Kyle Loftus and YouTuber Cleetus McFarland, you’ve seen the dramatic transformation of two C5s with very different final visions for a completed project.

Kyle’s Unicorn C5 was an ambitious plan to build a car with 1,000 horsepower, but to keep things usable on the street. Cleetus’ car was a salvage title C5, stripped of its body, fitted with an exterior cage and hardly even resembles a Corvette any more. As builds go, not everything goes to plan, and Kyle had a number of setbacks, while Cleetus enjoyed far more steady progress. But now they are at Raceway Park of the Midlands, and the real races are about to go down.

Starting off the proceedings was a simple roll race. On the road course portion of the track, there’s no prep and that put Cleetus to work to keep his C5 pointed in a straight line. Cleetus’ troubles continued when they moved to the strip for 1/8th-mile drag racing, where traction issues plagued his first few runs. But, did that traction issue keep him from winning? Watch the video above to find out.

But this rivalry is not quite over. Racing in the 1/8 mile is far different from racing in the 1/4 mile and Cleetus has challenged Kyle to a proper 1320-foot race later in the year in Florida.
