This 1958 Corvette was found in a partially disassembled and restored state, and now, it just needs someone to finish it.

Many of us have started projects with the best intentions, but then, something gets in the way – whether it be a life event or simple lack of interest. As a result, there are many, many unfinished automotive restoration projects sitting around, just waiting for the right person to come along and finish them. That includes this 1958 Corvette that surfaced for sale on eBay, which was disassembled 40 years ago after the owner decided to restore it. For reasons unknown, that never happened, and the car instead sat in storage for decades, until just recently.

The good news is, pretty much everything one needs to finish this 1958 Corvette project is present and accounted for, albeit somewhat in a state of disarray. There are a few missing trim pieces, according to the seller, though the original (bored .040 over) 283 block is present and accounted for, and much of the chrome is brand new. In fact, newspaper from the 1980s still adorns some of those parts, which were wrapped up for safekeeping.

As a total roller, this C1 reportedly fires right up and drives, and though it’s currently powered by a 327 from the C2 generation, the car’s original powerplant was found sitting right next to it. The small block is mated to a Muncie four-speed manual gearbox, making for a cool combination if the new owner decides not to revert the car back to its original state.

In terms of bodywork, the seller does note that the left rear quarter panel appears to have been replaced at some point in the car’s life, judging from some fiberglass work that can be spotted underneath. However, it’s a solid repair, and the frame looks to be in good shape, so it was likely just minor cosmetic damage, if nothing else.

Ultimately, this 1958 Corvette looks like a cool project with much of the work already completed, though this listing has since been removed from the mega auction site. This likely means that the old Corvette has found a new home, but given how cool and well-preserved it is, that doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
