1959 Corvette Drag Car for Sale is a Flying Purple People Eater

Custom 1959 Corvette

A Corvette that’s all about big numbers: 655 cubic inches, 1,400 horsepower, and $320,000.

Here at CorvetteForum, we have a real appreciation for the classics. We love to see painstakingly restored pieces of history, ready to win awards and teach the next generation about Corvette history.

With that said, we also really enjoy seeing people personalize their Corvettes. Using the Corvette as the basis for your dream car makes perfect sense, and it’s always neat to see what people come up with.

This wild purple 1959 Corvette is a prime example. We found it on Hemmings for sale at a dealer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Once it was someone’s dream build – now, it can be yours.

Besides the color, the first thing you’ll probably notice about this creation is that massive engine. It’s a 655 cubic inch Chevy big block producing a tire-melting 1,400 horsepower.

Speaking of tires, the rear end was tubbed to fit massive racing slicks, likely necessary to put all of that power to the ground. Up front, a matching pair of skinny tires keeps things on the straight and narrow – or tries to.

Like many drag car builds, that enormous engine is backed by a beefed-up, two-speed Powerglide. A Hurst shifter sits atop that Powerglide in the cabin, filled with racing buckets and a roll cage. Just in case, there’s an on-board fire suppression system.

Hopefully, the only flames on this car will be the subtle ghost flames painted on the front and sides. It feels odd to use the word “subtle” to describe anything about this monster.

The engine is topped with a a tunnel ram intake manifold and fed by a pair of enormous carburetors. Chrome velocity stacks make for the cherry on top of this horsepower sundae. Exhaust escapes from the engine via a pair of chrome five inch side pipes exiting in front of each rear wheel.

The end result is a car you won’t see at Bloomington Gold. Instead, it will be tearing up the drag strip, delivering timeslips in the seven second range. The ad claims that no expense was spared during the build. With a $320,000 asking price, we’re inclined to believe them.
