GM Says 2015 Corvette Z06 Did Not Lap the Nürburgring in 6:59.13 – Bummer

2015 Corvette Z06 with Z07 Package at the Nürburgring (1)

This morning HorsepowerKings got our hopes up by running a story claiming the 2015 Corvette Z06 completed a sub-seven-minute lap on the Nürburgring — specifically, the time claimed was 6:59.13.

Within a few hours, Chevrolet Spokesman Monte Doran confirmed to our friends at MotorAuthority that “the claimed time of 6:59 is not accurate.”

For a little background, I’ll point out that a couple of weeks ago, HorsepowerKings claimed Ford would stop offering V8s in Mustangs and F-150s after 2017. Ford quickly denied that report’s veracity. A few days ago, the same source claimed the 2016 Shelby GT350R lapped the Nürburgring in 7:32.19. Ford has yet to confirm that claim.

Today, Chevrolet wasted no time in debunking HorsepowerKings’ latest assertion. It seems a pattern is developing here. I wonder what “news” HorsepowerKings will break next. “C8 Corvette Zora to go On Sale in March 2015”? How about, “Ferrari Bringing Pick-Up Truck to Market in 2017”?

What sensational headlines can you come up with on the forum? >>

I had never heard of HorsepowerKings until a couple of weeks ago, but it seems the online publication is becoming the National Enquirer of automotive media.

As for when we’ll get an official Nürburgring time for the C7 Z06, the wait looks to be a long one.

“There are only very small windows of time when manufacturers can record a lap on video,” Monte Doran told MotorAuthority. “During industry pool days, all video and photography equipment is banned from the track, as there are multiple manufacturers testing confidential vehicles. The windows available for ‘exclusive’ use for video are very small, and sell out fast.”

Doran says Chevy logged almost 1,000 miles with the new Corvette Z06 at the ‘Ring. “During that time, we only had two opportunities to run a lap on video, and both were rained out. If we get a lap on video, we will post an official time.”

When the heavens do get a chance to open over the Nürburgring, what time do you think the 2015 Corvette Z06 will achieve? Is it a sub-seven-minute car?
