700 Horsepower Electric Z06 Makes Its Debut
So maybe the idea of an all-electric Corvette isn’t so far-fetched. After all, there is something appealing about the possibilities.
Now, by no means am I suggesting that the beloved American sports car steer away from its hard core roots in favor of a route traveled by nameplates the likes of Tesla. But I’m definitely more interested after getting a few new facts about the Genovation GXE all-electric Z06, which was recently unveiled at the 2015 Battery Show in Michigan.
I’m inclined to think there might even be a few takers here on Corvette Forum.
Powered by a 44-kWh battery pack, the electric Corvette can go from 0-60 miles per hour in three seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph, according to an Auto Blog report. The car is said to pack over 700 horsepower and over 600 lb-ft. of torque.
The downside is that the thrill of driving the GXE Corvette is limited to about two hard laps at the Nurburgring, or 40-50 miles of fast on-road driving, before needing to be recharged.
Then there’s also the fact that it could run you more than three times the cost of the traditional Z06. That could be a deal breaker as well.
