700-HP Corvette Z06: Ultimate Budget Supercar?

By -

With a little tuning, the C7 Corvette Z06 can have 700-plus horsepower. Is this the best supercar on the market for the money?

The C7 Corvette Z06 is a brutally-fast sports car out of the box, pumping out 650 horsepower and 650 ft-lbs of torque in stock trim from the supercharged LT4 engine. When you compare it to other offerings in the U.S. market, you will find no American-built rival.

Sure, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat makes a bit more power at 707 hp, but the handling of the big muscle coupe is not on the same level. From Ford you have the Shelby GT350R, which is a great pony car, but it is no match for the Z06, and it has been bested on the track by the Camaro ZL1 1LE.

Now, looking at the offerings from the rest of the world, you will be looking at well beyond the Z06’s price point to step into the same power range. The new Porsche GT2 RS offers 700 horsepower, but it is also almost $300,000, so, good luck buying one. Cars from other luxury brands like Audi and BMW don’t offer anything is the same price range either. The Z06 stands alone as the more-bang-for-your-buck supercar. We say “super” in relation to the factory performance levels.

In a great new video by Joe Knows Best (above), host Joseph Benedetini reviews a C7 Corvette Z06 with some modifications that put the power levels around 700 horsepower. Benedetini says that the performance-for-dollar-value of the Z06 make it a bargain on the sports car market. Add in a bit of mods and the nearest rivals with be pushing $300,000-plus!
