Dragstrip Battle: Modded C7 Corvette Versus NISMO GT-R

C7 vs NISMO GTR

Which car do you think is quicker down the dragstrip: The elusive 2016 NISMO GT-R or a modified Corvette C7 from Redline Motorsports?

Thanks to the fine folks over at Road Test TV, we now know without a doubt. Well, mostly without a doubt.

As you can see in the video below, in a recent quarter-mile drag race, the Corvette blew the NISMO out of the water, hitting 133 mph, and conquering the strip in 10.81 seconds. The NISMO, on the other hand, was noticeably slower. It covered the quarter-mile in 11.3 seconds, while trapping at 120 mph.

Here’s what you need to know about each car:

  • The Corvette runs on Chevrolet’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8, which generates 460 horsepower in stock models. But the Corvette in this race was not stock: Redline Motorsports added an ECS Novi 1500 supercharger and headers. OK, so that might give it a bit of an advantage. That, and it had a slight jump off the light. Still, the ‘Vette was screaming down the track.
  • The limited edition NISMO GT-R is the most elusive of the GT-Rs. In theory, it’s supposed to be powered by 600 ponies. It’s also supposed to drive incredibly well, thanks to a slew of performance and suspension upgrades, though it performed sub-optimally in this particular race. The NISMO retails for $149,990 — $50,000 more than the base model.

Which car would you rather take out on the track? I’m guessing the Corvette, right? But if you prefer the Nissan, let us know. We want to see if there’s any GT-R love on this forum. Don’t worry. We’re not switching allegiances, but we understand and appreciate love for all cars. Well, most.

Let us know in the comments below, and happy driving.
