Cammed C6 Z06 Sounds Fantastic While Running 10s

Corvette makes all the right noises running hard through the quarter-mile.

We can’t think of a better-sounding C6 Z06 than this hard-running Corvette. YouTuber BigKleib34 caught this car running at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland with an immaculate sound. From the fast-lope idle to the rips down the track, this one just works.

We’re not sure the cam specs for this LS7, but whatever moves the pushrods creates a devilish soundtrack as the Z06 rolls into the waterbox. The lope comes across without a lumpy feel, but even with a relatively smooth-sounding cam, the viewer can tell this ‘Vette means business.

The driver certainly appears to be working on things besides leaving at the light. They don’t call it “Test ‘n’ Win” night at the drag strip. Sometimes, you work on getting the car through an elapsed time, or maybe you look at how it runs at the top end. A good light doesn’t matter if the car isn’t running 1,320 feet like it’s supposed to.

However, once it saunters off the line, the 7.0-liter LS7 revs gleefully all the way through three gears. That sound, again, just rips through the nighttime air in Maryland so perfectly.

Whatever the owner’s program, the Velocity Yellow C6 chips away at the elapsed time through the featured runs. After an opening 11.36-second salvo, the driver knocks 0.2 off each subsequent pass. That culminates in a 10.90-second run at more than 130 miles per hour.

We can’t scoff at a 10-second timeslip. We’d expect the Z06 to attack the tree with a bit more ferocity now that the Corvette sits on the good side of 11.00 seconds. Wherever it goes and whatever it does, the owner can take solace in owning a C6 Z06 that just sounds exactly like a Z06 should.
