Cheap Corvette Z06 Project Finally Hits the Streets

By -

This C5 Z06 project car takes to the street for the first time with LS6 power under the hood.

The last time we wrote about YouTuber Garage Topics’ C5 Corvette Z06,  it was strapped to a dyno. The LS6 built for this project put down an impressive 440 rear wheel horsepower and 408 lb/ft of torque despite a leaking rear main seal.

This newest video marks the first time that this Corvette has been driven on the street after its heart transplant. The host explains that he’s only driven the car about 200 miles total since acquiring it. In fact, he goes on to say that, with 440 horsepower in a lightweight chassis like the C5, it’s likely to be the fastest car he’s ever driven.

The Corvette, which was purchased with a salvage title, has been in more than one accident in its life. Garage Topics wisely opts to take it easy when driving it for the first time, lest he add another wrinkle to the Corvette’s frame.

Shortly after getting under way, Garage Topics encounters another Corvette coming the opposite way. He waves, and is delighted to see that it’s another C5. What a great experience to have on your first time out!

According to him, just a quick blip of the throttle while underway can smack his head into the headrest. The car will spin tire in second gear, and a reasonably quick 2-3 shift left the host nearly speechless.

While the Corvette sounds very mellow around town, it really wakes up when more throttle is applied. It’s a sweet sounding machine, with more than enough power to back up its aggressive exhaust note.

Garage Topics is understandably excited about the fast Corvette he’s put together. He’s also happy that he’s discovered a great set of rural farm roads near his home to test his car on. We’re excited to see what’s in store next for this blue Z06.
