Someone at GM has obviously noticed that Corvette Z06 owners like to use their cars in performance environments. To help those owners along, GM has announced a “100 Octane Fuel Calibration.” The technical changes are said to help reduce inlet air temperatures during spirited driving. It may also hint at a slight fix for the overheating issues that have affected Z06 owners. However, it is not in any way a recall.

The change would be done at your local Chevrolet dealer, and is applicable to 2015 and 2016 models. The performance upgrade reportedly costs only $332.50 and maintains the vehicle warranty. It would not affect emissions, but you would get a new emissions label, as the minimum octane requirement for street driving would be 93. Note that some gas stations and regions only have 91 octane as their “premium” fuel, but most have 93 available.

What’s not known is how much performance will increase. However, with the ability to recognize high octane fuel, the engine might be mapped in such a way to take advantage of that. As always, our members are on the case, and before/after dyno testing will determine any differences on the 93 octane side of things.
