2023 Corvette Z06 — What We (Think We) Know

As our best official teaser thus far, the above video seems to confirm much of the rumors and speculation. With Corvette Racing and the C8.R heading into the 24 Hours of Le Man tomorrow morning, GM’s teaser overlays and juxtaposes the two vehicles in poetic and telling ways. In other words, much like previous incarnations, the C8 Z06 will be born out of racing heritage. (And probably a little homologation.)

Under the hood — still clearly hidden camouflaged — we expect to find a version of the C8.R’s 5.5L DOHC V8 sporting a flat-plane crank. As part of the GT Le Mans racing class, Corvette Racing restricts the engine’s power output to 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque @ 7,400rpm. We expect the road-legal Z06 to rev much higher and, therefore, make some serious power. The only question remaining is, “how much?”

From a marketing standpoint, Corvette fanboys will be miffed if this new Z06 doesn’t have a larger peak power number than the outgoing C7 Z06, so it’ll be interesting to learn where Chevy lands.

We’ve also seen what appears to be a magnesium DCT gearbox that’s able to handle more power. And the above video shows all the extra front and side intakes with MASSIVE radiators. And can we talk about how great it is to see the Corvette back to a quad-tipped center-exit exhaust???

CONFRIMED: Chevy to Unveil 2023 Corvette Z06 in October!!!

There are tons of other bits to talk about, of course. But perhaps the biggest item on the list is the large rear spoiler (#BigWang). Rumors implied that there would be an active aero component. And though still cloaked in camo, the C8 Z06 prototype’s wing appears to be fixed (or perhaps limited to manual adjustments). Still, we expect GM’s downforce figures to be a prominent talking point during the reveal.

There’s another rumor about carbon fiber wheels, which have been available on Ford’s halo sports cars since 2015. And based on the still image of the C8 Z06 parked next to the C8.R, this seems like a very likely possibility as well.
