New C7 ZR1 Debut Delayed Until Further Notice

What does one do after waiting around, anticipating the debut of the hot new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and it doesn’t materialize?

Well, spend some time reveling in the beauty of the Corvette Grand Sport under the glitzy lights at Detroit’s Cobo Center. Much like the average show-goer who hasn’t necessarily been keeping track of what cars are debuting.

After all, the Grand Sport is well-deserving of the attention, as highlighted in the gallery below. The popular C7 variant and a convertible stablemate are prominently displayed at the Detroit show, which kicked off yesterday.

That said, it still was a little disappointing for those who had been eagerly hoping that Chevy would debut the new ZR1 at the show. It seems like the Detroit automaker chose to focus on showcasing its hot new Silverado instead. It certainly wouldn’t be a bad vehicle to have on hand in order to tow that Grand Sport to the track for a little fun.

We have, however, learned that there’s still hope that Chevy could debut the new ZR1 this year. All indications are that the development for the 750-horsepower C7 variant is still on schedule. In fact, according to a Car and Driver report, Chevy could roll out the new ZR1 at the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase IMSA event at Road America this August.

That certainly seems like a viable venue for the ZR1’s debut. Especially during this new day and age, when car companies are looking for exciting ways to make sure they get the most buzz possible.

But don’t go booking those tickets and travel arrangements for the event just yet. Chevy is still pretty mum on exactly what the debut plans are for the ZR1. So, you might want to hold off before booking those flights to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
