Corvette Forum C8 Corvette Z06 Yellow Render

C8 Corvette Z06 is sure to have a wider stance, tweaked aerodynamics, and more power than the Stingray.

It is all-but-official that Chevrolet will offer a C8 Corvette Z06. There have been spy shots and video footage captured of what is believed to be the next Z06. There have also been renderings of a C8 with C8.R-like aero bits. These include a huge rear wing and exaggerated front end spoilers. Here at Corvette Forum, we think we’ll definitely see a C8 with race-ready aero, but that’ll probably be reserved for the ZR-1. It might be reserved for the Zora if the company goes that route with the naming.

We believe that the C8 Z06 will follow suit to the C7, offering considerably greater performance with subtle exterior upgrades. With that in mind, we asked our talented photoshop artist to pen our vision of the next-generation C8 Corvette Z06 painted in C8.R livery colors.

C8 Corvette Z06 Face

Our C8 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 render features four key changes when compared to the newest Stingray, including the front fascia, the hood, the quarter panel scoops, and the rear wing. When you look a little closer, you will notice that the fenders and quarter panels are also different.

Up front, our mid-engine Z06 begins with a front fascia that looks standard at first glimpse, but look closer. The large, central opening in the lower fascia has a slightly different, C8.R-inspired shape. It has a larger top portion that tapers inward as it extends to the chin spoiler. The Stingray front fascia has a lower opening that is larger at the bottom, but it has thick spokes between each opening. The front fascia of our C8 Z06 has thinner spokes and larger outer openings, allowing for better airflow to the front brakes. There is also a larger chin spoiler that extends out and down further from the front fascia. Winglets on the ends of the chin spoiler calm the air going over the front wheel openings.

The hood also has a series of vents that improve front-end aerodynamics. And the big, duck-bill-style spoiler out back furthers the effort to control airflow over the top of the car.

The Sides and Rear

Along the sides of Corvette Forum’s Z06 rendering, you can see the large quarter panel vents. The body line running down the lower-middle of the Stingray extends over the vent. On our Z06, that body line is tucked into a wider vent. If you look a little closer, you will notice a more dramatic bulge at the rear wheel opening behind the quarter panel vent. There is also a larger gap between the front wheel opening and the headlight, pointing out the fact that our Corvette Z06 has a slightly wider body than a C8 Stingray.

Out back, we expect that the look will be similar to the Stingray with a few exceptions. Most notably, there will be a prominent, adjustable duck-bill style spoiler. We have also added larger rear vents, but the lower portion of the fascia remains relatively unchanged. This includes the quad exhaust tips.

What’s Under the Hatch?

One of the hottest topics pertaining to the C8 Corvette Z06 is what will be under the rear glass engine cover. There have long been rumors that the next Z06 would be powered by a twin-turbocharged mill based on the LT architecture, but spy footage reveals a car that sounds more like a dual overhead cam flat-plane V8, So, while early rumors pointed at a twin-turbo mill, recent rumors point to a naturally aspirated, high-revving flat-plane engine.

As for power levels, some rumors suggested a naturally aspirated, flat-plane V8 could offer 600 horsepower. Many people believe that Chevrolet will not introduce a C8 Z06 with less power than the 650hp supercharged C7 Z06. For context, Ford’s flat-plane Voodoo V8 in the Shelby GT350 offers 526 horsepower with 5.2-liters. If the Corvette flat-plane engine is larger, it could be worked to offer similar horsepower to the LT4. In using the flat plane design, this engine would likely reach its peak output much more quickly while offering huge RPMs under power.

There is also the hope that the C8 Corvette Z06 will offer more power than the C7 models via a twin-turbocharged flat-plane V8. If the next new Corvette has a boosted version of the C8.R engine, power levels could easily reach into the 700+ horsepower range. That trumps the outgoing Z06 while leaving plenty of space for the rumors ZR-1 with 900+ horsepower.

So, what do you think of the render? Are we close? Miss the boat completely? How would you design the C8 Z06 and what’s your bet on the powertrain? Let us know over in our forums right HERE.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
