Dealer Lists 2023 Corvette Z06 for Nearly $300K, Promptly Backs Down

2023 Corvette Z06 Dealer Markup

This 2023 Corvette Z06 was listed for nearly double MSRP, which quickly changed following the appearance of a forum post.

Over the past few years, a common trend has emerged in the automotive world – new vehicles being sold for more than MSRP. This sort of thing happened well before we plunged into the supply chain nightmare that we’ve been dealing with for over two years now, but generally, it only applied to special, limited-edition models. Thus, it was essentially a given that the red hot new 2023 Corvette Z06 would be sold with some pretty massive markups applied to those vehicles’ MSRPs, and now that deliveries of the latest and greatest C8 are underway, we’re beginning to see precisely that.

Recently, a thread emerged at CorvetteForum calling out dealers selling 2023 Corvette Z06 models for more than MSRP, and there are some pretty hefty offenders on that list thus far. But by far the most outrageous one we’ve come across to date belongs to this black 3LZ model listed for sale on Autotrader, which was originally priced at just shy of an eye-watering $300k by Simi Valley Chevrolet in California.

Since the listing was highlighted (or called out, rather) in the forums, the price of this particular 2023 Corvette Z06 has suddenly changed to $164,575 – its MSRP, at least – though the car isn’t listed on the dealer’s website at this time, either. Thus, it’s unclear if the dealer is willing to sell this particular Z06 at MSRP, or if it’s just waiting to spring the bad news on prospective buyers when they call or show up to inquire.

Given the state of the current market and this curious revision, we imagine that there’s essentially no chance that this – or any new Z06 sitting in dealer inventory, for that matter – will sell for sticker price, but crazier things have happened. Regardless, it’s just one of several examples listed for sale on Autotrader at the moment – but the majority of them are priced at MSRP or with the old fashioned “contact dealer for price” tag.

Out of that group, there are a couple with visible markups, at least – this Z07 package-equipped model with a cool $75k markup, and a base model that is also priced at an even $75k over sticker. Unfortunately for those that don’t already have an order placed for a 2023 Corvette Z06, this will likely be the norm, as has historically been the case with desirable vehicles in recent years.
