VINWiki’s Ed Bolian tries out a DIY ceramic coating product on one very dirty sports car.

Few new developments in the world of car care have caught on quite like ceramic coatings. These products, when applied to a vehicle’s paint, body and even plastic trim, is said to offer a level of protection similar to an additional layer of clear coat. However, these products have long required a professional for application, simply because it’s all too easy to mess up the application.

Then there is Ed Bolian of VINWiki. Bolian thinks that many of these ceramic coating products are snake oil. Well, until he tries a DIY ceramic coating product on his own car, a Porsche 993. No middle man, and no excuses, Bolian applies the ceramic coating product to his car and the results are impressive. The car’s paintwork is basically impervious to dust and waster, and, even after some intense donuts in a dusty lot, Bolian’s ride looks clean.
