Fix Your C6 Corvette’s Targa Roof Rattles Forever!

C6 Corvette coupes have long been known to have a little rattle with the roof panel installed; you know the one I’m talking about. It’s an annoyance that many owners have grown to live with, or perhaps “survive.” However, thanks to a lengthy and involved DIY thread from forum moderator and tech contributor ‘talon90’, it’s possible to make your roof panel’s rattles a thing of the past. You may learn to love your Corvette coupe again without that pesky perturbation.

There are a few things you may need to add to your car, a clip here, or an isolating o-ring there. If you have an early-production top, you may need to break down and install the new factory-fix latch handles to fully fix your rattle. There is a technical service bulletin straight from GM regarding this issue, and talon90 was even kind enough to include all of that information in the thread.

Once everything is back in and the rattle is fixed, it’s always a good idea to properly maintain your seals and latches with silicone-based lubricants, especially in dry or particularly cold environments. Dried-out targa top seals will shrink and crack, causing improper isolation between the top and the body of the car, potentially leading to unrelated squeaks and rattles, not to mention potential leaking issues. Keep your Corvette rattle free and leak free, and you’ll continue to enjoy it for years to come.
