For some, it’s a passenger ride in a fast and loud ‘Vette. For others, it can be a shiny new Stingray out in front of a dealership. For most of us, it is a childhood memory solidified as a grownup’s dream come true. Regardless of how it happened, there’s now a thread to share the special story of when you first fell in love with a Corvette.

My story is similar to quite a few others who have submitted in the thread. I was about eight-years-old, tagging along with my mom at a garage sale when a bright orange C3 naturally caught my attention. It was automatic, I think, but that didn’t matter. It also had chrome side-pipes, which I thought were the coolest thing in the world. I wanted side-pipes on everything. My bicycle, my bed, the refrigerator… my eight-year-old mind concluded everything would be made better by the installation of the chrome noisemakers.

The owner was kind enough to furnish my curiosity with a closer look. Orange was on the outside, and tan was found within. Sheepskin seat covers stuck out in my mind, as well as the low seating position. Having just exited a Buick Century, it felt like I was seated directly on the ground. Then there was the ride. It may have spanned a total of four minutes at best, but there was nothing else I would think about for the entirety of the next week other than that car. Well, maybe side-pipes.
