Chevy also says C8 Corvette sales remain so strong that most builds are custom orders spec’d out by the buyer.

Today marks the first day of the 2021 Michelin National Corvette Museum Bash. And with the starting ceremonies underway, Bowling Green Assembly reps made an appearance, confirming the names of three new colors coming to the 2022 Corvette model year. They are:

  • Hypersonic Gray Metallic
  • Amplify Orange Tintcoat
  • Caffeine Metallic

Now, for the CorvetteForum faithful, this news isn’t, well, new. Earlier this year, Chevrolet’s Czech language site accidentally leaked the news, even going so far as to name the new colors’ paint codes:

  • Hypersonic Gray Metallic (GA7)
  • Caffeine Brown Metallic (G48)
  • Amplify Orange Tintcoat (GC5)

As such, we expect GM to discontinue Sebring Orange, Shadow Gray, and Zeus Bronze. So, if you want one of those, hopefully, you have a line on a 2021 MY allocation. Why? Because C8 Corvette demand is still above GM’s ability to produce them. As such, Chevy says, “most of the vehicles we’ve built have been sold orders personalized by their owners.” GM hopes the new “fresh colors” will allow customers to “showcase their individuality on road.”

But I’m hoping that GM can soon exceed demand so that anyone who wants a C8 can simply head out to their location dealership. Sure, that means early buyers won’t be able to drive and flip them. But far too few people in the world have experienced its mid-engine glory for my tastes. And that needs to change.
