Can a C7 Corvette Z06 Keep Pace With a McLaren P1?

It’s a pretty tall order to claim that the C7 Z06 can hang with a McLaren P1 around Circuit of the Americas, but our friends at GSpeed have proven just that. Using one of their project Z06s, which only has a few modifications, they not only set a similar lap time as the P1, but they prove that in the corners, the Corvette is far superior. Cornering is helped with the addition of Michelin racing tires, and the GSpeed splitter and wing combo. The only two other modifications include an upgraded brake package, and GSpeed’s in-house designed cooling system.

All in, these modifications give the Corvette an alarmingly big margin in the turns, though the McLaren picks up a lot of ground on the back-end of the straightaway. It’s worth noting that the McLaren’s lap time stands as the fastest production car lap at Circuit of the Americas. One thing is for certain, this proves that the Z06 is not only a performance bargain, it is also a performance benchmark. To anyone with doubts as to the performance potential of the C7 Z06, your arguments have been delivered a serious blow.
