How To Replace your Corvette’s Wipers

By -

Changing your Corvette wiper blades and windshield arm system is a relatively straightforward and inexpensive project. It’s important that you keep a close eye on how the wiper blades are performing for several reasons: first, this will help to increase the visibility that you have in the car when it is snowing or raining. Additionally, it will help to prevent annoying or potentially distracting noises as the wiper blades gradually become misaligned and start to squeak or produce other sounds. For these reasons, it’s a good idea to monitor your wiper blades every six months or so in order to be sure that they don’t require replacement. If they do, follow the steps below to replace them easily and quickly.

Step 1 — Gather Your Materials

You’ll need the following items in order to replace the wiper blades in your Corvette:

  • New wiper blades that match the size and shape of those that already exist
  • Screwdrivers

Step 2 — Remove the Old Blades

Lift up the wipers off of the windshield so that they are better able to be examined closely. You should then look at the rear portion of the wiper blade. You’ll need to find the release pin which is located on the back of the windshield arm. Uncheck this pin with a screwdriver or by hand if you can. This sets it so that the blade for the wiper can be removed. You’ll then need to unclip the blade at the base of the arm before you can slide it off of the arm. Having done that, slide it off gently and dispose of it or put it in a safe place. Then complete the same process for the other wiper blade.

Step 3 — Clean the System (Optional)

If you’d like, you can now clean up the inside of he wiper arm. This is especially useful if you’ve noticed that it’s causing streaks to appear on the windshield. You should also take the time to examine the rubber edge of the new blades for inconsistencies and extraneous material that may cause the blade to produce streaks or other marks on the windshield after you’ve installed it. This can also be responsible for any noises or other annoying things that you hear from the wiper blades after installing them. If you do spot any extra pieces of rubber, use a small knife to remove them and smooth out the rubber.

Step 4 — Attach the New Blades

Next, you should attach the new blades one by one. Slide the first blade onto the first windshield arm. You can then clip it into place at the base of the arm. Attach the pin back into place by hand, or using a screwdriver if necessary. Check the wiper blade by hand to be sure that it is securely fastened in place. Then repeat the exact same process for the other wiper arm and blade so that it’s attached securely as well.

Step 5 — Test the Wipers

Pour water over the hood of your Corvette and run the wipers briefly. Make sure that they produce an even and clean swipe over the windshield cover. If they don’t, you may need to adjust the blades so that they fit properly. Also listen for any unusual sounds which may be a sign that they haven’t been installed properly.

All of the materials needed for this project are available at auto body repair shops and at many mechanic’s stores. Ask a professional for additional advice in replacing Corvette wipers.
