Is the Corvette Heavy?

Considering the Amount of Car You Get, the Corvette’s Not Heavy at All

We all know that convenience and safety features are making cars fatter than ever. And we know the Corvette is not trying to sell itself as a lightweight, stripped-out car either. Regardless, the discussion of weight often comes up. Like taxes, it is something you can’t avoid.

Truth be told, we are a victim of the very things we actually want out of a Corvette. Sure, we want a car that can carve up corners with the best supercars, but we like our spines, which is why we have adjustable shocks. We also love our ear drums, which is why there’s sound-deadening material. It’s not a stretch to say that we have asked for the weight of the car, considering what we expect from a Corvette these days.

Weighing in at about 3,300 pounds, the Corvette is a bit of an engineering miracle, all things considered. You get a car that is incredibly capable, relatively inexpensive, and very easy to live with every day. That’s not an easy compromise to achieve once you start throwing expensive lightweight components at it, or stripping it bare.

What we really have to ask is, would it be worth it to take more weight off the car?
