Kyle and Cleetus Ramp up the Great C5 Battle

By -

The great C5 battle continues as Cletus discovers baseline numbers for his stripped C5, and Kyle talks drive-line and suspension setup for his Unicorn.

Yesterday, we got way into 1320Video’s amazing C5 duel, but there’s plenty more, as you can see in these two vids.

With all the power to be made by Kyle’s Unicorn C5, it needs a transmission, diff, and drive shaft upgrade. So he goes to RPM Transmissions for advice. For a gear box, a T6060 is the option of choice, with a carbon fiber drive shaft to replace the stock one, which can be a weak link. A differential brace is also useful to help reduce wheel-hop, and take stress off other components. In keeping a manual transmission, a twin disc clutch is going to be the way to go, and McLeod looks to have the solution for that.

When it comes to keeping all that power under control, suspension and brakes become key. A set of coilovers and C6Z front brakes keep the 1,000 horsepower in check.

Cleetus, on the other hand, has completely different progress going on. With the car stripped down, weight is to his advantage, but how much? All of that is discovered during a drag race day, where Leroy the stripped C5 is put on a scale, and then raced.

For consistency, Cleetus weighs the car with a full tank of gas, and it comes out to a surprisingly light 2,550 pounds. With that measurement in the bag, it’s time to hit the strip, and again there are some surprises. A 12.19 run at 116 miles per hour is far quicker than expected. Power adders in the future will make this thing a beast, so stay tuned!
