How Fast Can a McLaren P1 Smoke a 2015 Corvette Z06?

Just how much faster is a McLaren P1 than a C7 Corvette Z06? As this video demonstrates, it’s in another league.

And it should be in another league. The McLaren P1 has a base price of $1,150,000. For all that dough, you get a butt-load of a car that is capable of a butt-load of speed. The 217-mph McLaren P1 spits in the face of physics with its 903-horsepower twin-turbo 3.8L gas/electric hybrid powertrain. To break it down, that’s 727 petrol ponies and 177 electric equines.

That electron-supplemented internal combustion means zero to 100 mph in five seconds. The quarter-mile runs toward your embrace in 10 seconds. Come to papa.

Except for a few honorable mentions like the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, all other cars wish they could be beaten by the McLaren P1.

In this bout at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, the ‘Vette, driven by forum member “thusly“, was indeed gloriously beaten, and if you’re going to get smacked in the face by superior speed, it may as well be by a car that’s a million bucks dearer than yours.

Perhaps at this point you’re thinking, “I’d like to see how they’d compare if the Corvette Z06 had more than 900 horsepower.” I’d imagine it would be a great race, as cornering speeds look comparable. Still there’s another variable to consider: driver skill. From what I can tell, there was more aptitude behind the wheel of the Z06 than there was at the helm of the McLaren P1.
