New Corvette ZR1 Leaks Ahead of Dubai Auto Show Debut

Corvette ZR1 render

Lately, it seems like Corvette rumors are a dime a dozen, but actual substance is little. That’s definitely the case with the new ZR1.

Yes, we’ve seen spy shots of a car we assumed was it, but it seems like those prototypes were running around years ago. Today we finally have some proof that the car is coming and what it’ll look like.

A leak of the cover of Car and Driver puts the ZR1 front and center. To honor the 750th issue of the magazine, they’re devoting a significant amount of space to the 750-horsepower beast.

The big wing is the clear giveaway that this isn’t just your typical Corvette. A redesigned front end is also present to assist with both downforce and cooling of the massive engine under the hood.

We’d also like to take a moment and pat ourselves on the back for having a pretty accurate render of the new car that we shared with you a while back.

While we know that it makes 750-horsepower, we don’t know much else. Presumably, the car will have Chevrolet’s 10-speed automatic transmission. Hopefully, they also include a manual transmission, but with a car focused on lap times that might not be the case. The only thing that gives us hope is that the Camaro ZL1 1LE is a manual-only affair.

An extra 100 horsepower is a lot of oomph, and while we’re sure that the ZR1 will be faster than the car it replaces — and then ultimately be trumped by the mid-engine car — we do hope General Motors figured out all of the cooling for the extensive track work that this car is likely to receive.

The ZR1 debuts this weekend at the auto show in Dubai. If you’re not heading to the Middle East, you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the car at the LA Auto Show later this month. Stay tuned for our live coverage of the new ZR1 from the LA Auto Show starting November 29.
