New Spy Shots Offer Clearest Look Yet at New Mid-Engine Corvette
Winter testing spy shots reveal a Corvette with minimal camo, and a distinct wedge design.
As we get ever-closer to the mid-engine Corvette’s finally breaking cover, spy shots continue to emerge. Winter testing is part of that process, and these new spy shots show the new sports car with the lowest amount of camo we’ve yet to see. And now, we have a few interesting details to cover.
The roof shape is of the double-bubble variety with a wide, recessed part running the length of the roof. Even though the rear of the car is covered, it’s unlikely that this recess will lead to a roof scoop for the air intake, due to it being rather shallow. Keen-eyed observers will also note that you can see the B-pillar through the back window. This likely means that the Corvette will have a full rear glass cover to show off the engine. Instead of a roof scoop, the engine will get air from the side scoops, which are integrated within the door as we had seen in previous spy shots.
Up front, you can see some of the black-and-white camo behind the screen-mesh air openings. Styling of these openings appear to be similar to that of the new ZR1; however, they look to be longer and extend closer toward the center of the car. A small hint of LED headlights appear, but they are sufficiently hidden enough that we have no idea how they may end up looking on the production model. Out back, mesh openings appear on the lower, outer parts of the brake lights, and a deck spoiler similar to the Z06 aero package appears. There is no giant wing for Corvette devotees to complain about … yet.
Overall, though, the wedge shape is finally clear with appealing, almost Italian, body lines. While we still have yet to see the minor details that matter most (the brakes look rather modest), this set of spy shots gives us that next necessary tease to keep our imaginations going.
