Corvette Z06 Goes up in Flames, and Nightmare Becomes Reality
Fluke mechanical failure engulfed this Corvette in flames, leaving the owner helpless.
Automobile manufacturers have come an incredibly long way with safety in cars. So much so that we really don’t have to worry all that much about driving. That sense of safety is thrust to the forefront when something unforeseen happens, though, like the fire that completely destroyed this C7 Z06.
Unfolding like a movie script, the car’s owner, Keith Haughton, described a sharp bang, and sudden loss in power to the car while on the highway. He and his passenger were both taken by surprise, and simply thought it was a flat tire as they pulled over to the shoulder. That loud bang wasn’t a tire, however, as the car was quickly enveloped in flames.
Unable to do anything about the fire, Keith could only stand and watch as his white Z06 turned into a smoldering wreck. Thankfully, he and his passenger were okay. There’s still a lot of unanswered questions, though.

Sourcing the cause of the fire is almost impossible, due to how much of the car was reduced to ash. And efforts to contact Chevrolet about the problem have gone in vain. At Corvette Forum, we’re certainly hoping this was a one-off mistake, as a trend like this is not something we’d be comfortable with seeing.
Here’s hoping GM makes an effort to quell curious minds.
