C4 Corvette Dealer Promo Video

This Corvette dealer promo video gave C4 shoppers in the early 1980s all the info about what made it so special.

As we get older, most of us get more sentimental about the “good old days” of our respective youths. This is exactly why we seek to buy the cars we loved when we were young but penniless, of course. But we also enjoy watching old Corvette dealer promo video clips like this one from 1984, when the brand new C4 was launching amid much fanfare.

Watching this Corvette dealer promo video, posted to YouTube by Kyle Sandtveit, is literally like taking a time machine back to the early 1980s when performance was seemingly a thing of the past. Regardless, this was an exciting time for Corvette fans, as the C4 truly looked like a car from the future. We can only imagine rolling into a dealership and checking out the clip at a kiosk, which is where it originally played.

The video covers the full spectrum of the C4 Corvette, including a little bit of Corvette history leading up to this point, followed by the story of the fourth-generation model’s development, features, powertrain and chassis specifications, options, and the engineering that went into making it what it is. At the time, the C4 was arguably the most significant redesign in Corvette history, so those that weren’t around back then can only imagine how cool it was to see this happen live.

In addition to talking about the technical and design advancements the C4 bore at the time, this video also touches on the then-fairly new Bowling Green Assembly Plant, which was previously used by Chrysler to build air conditioning units. General Motors invested heavily in the facility after converting it over in 1980 before adding quite a bit of additional equipment to prepare for the C4’s launch.

If we could place ourselves in the shoes of someone who knew little to nothing about the Corvette during this era, we can only imagine how cool it would be to see this video for the first time as we contemplated buying a new car. GM clearly did a great job of selling its then-revolutionary Corvette at the time, and today, it’s pretty awesome that we can relive those moments all over again.
