Poll: Do You Think Mid-Engine Zora Is Just a Fantasy?
By far the biggest rumor circulating around the Corvette world is the Zora, and if the mid-engine Corvette is actually going to happen or not. Mid-engine Corvettes are nothing new, though. Rumors about them have been around since the C3; some even say the flying buttresses of the early C3 coupes are an indication that it was indeed supposed to be an engine cover, rather than a trunk.
Now more than ever, the rumors have merit. The timing is right; Ford has a new GT out, and there’s not much in the way of it trouncing the Corvette’s performance.
Having the Corvette go mid-engine might not go against the brand’s principals as much as you think. Sticking with the old layout, performance is likely only able to get a finite amount better. And think about Porsche’s greatest supercar, the 918: it’s mid-engine and the Porsche-philes are still enamored with it. But heaven forbid the 911 becomes mid-engined. Perhaps this puts the Corvette at an advantage. It can transform into a world-beating supercar, while still keeping the heartbeat of America in that V8 engine. Can you even imagine how fast a mid-engined Corvette would be? Or should we stop dreaming and get on with our lives? Let us know in the poll below!
