Salvage Title Corvette Z06: Ride Along With Robb Holland at Pikes Peak

By -

With only two-and-a-half months of prep, Robb Holland took this Corvette Z06 from wreckers to checkers at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

In case you haven’t read about this story before, hop on over to Jalopnik and check out Robb’s chronicling of his journey to the top of Pikes Peak in the fastest Corvette to ever scale the mountain. Just a few months ago, this 2017 Corvette Z06 was a pile of pieces that had been wrecked and insurance deemed a write-off. Robb and his team decided to buy the car with a salvage title and turn it into a beast of a race car, and it has been a heck of a journey.

Robb managed to turn in a respectable time of 10:55.166 with this Vette, giving him a 27th overall placement among 80 entrants (cars, trucks, bikes, and quads), and fourth in the Time Attack 1 category (against quasi-factory backed entrants from Hyundai, Porsche, and Acura).

That’s a pretty good effort, considering it’s Robb’s first time in the car, and that last time he was racing at Pikes Peak, he had a front wheel drive Audi. And, Robb was also experiencing some pretty serious power cutout near the end of his run, thanks to the Z06’s now-notorious engine overheating issues. Based on the interview at the beginning of the video, Mr. Holland figures that cost him quite a bit of time.

Given the opportunity, would you enter your Corvette in the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb? Having driven the road at speed ourselves, having that kind of power on hand makes us a little nervous. It sure would be a lot of fun, but it’s very easy to mess up in a big fashion on that mountain. We’re glad Robb made it to the clouds all in one piece.

And perhaps most importantly, he’ll be bringing this car back in 2018. Good luck Robb, we’re looking forward to following your progress.
