Stolen C8 Corvette Leads Police on High Speed Chase Before Crashing

Stolen C8 Corvette

Stolen C8 doesn’t get far before police manage to apprehend its thieves, but the car itself didn’t fare so well.

There are essentially two things that we automotive enthusiasts fear more than more – that our cars could be stolen by lowlife thieves, or that they might be involved in a crash. Unfortunately, both of those nightmares came true for a Novi, Michigan dealership recently, as one of its 2021 Corvettes was involved in a pretty wild police chase. The stolen C8 was tracked via OnStar, but that didn’t stop the carnage that ensued.

Detroit Police and Click on Detroit were able to capture footage of the chase and the aftermath, which was pretty gruesome – for the stolen C8, at least. After the dealer informed police that the car had been stolen, officers spotted it at the intersections of Gratiot Avenue and Outer Drive roughly 30 minutes later. The driver of the Corvette eventually turned onto I-75 Service Drive, smacked a van, and ran into multiple other vehicles.

The vehicular part of the pursuit ended on Chrysler Drive when two people jumped out of the wrecked Corvette and fled on foot. However, they must not have been very good at that, because officers caught the pair of criminals quickly and took them into custody. No charges have been filed as of yet, but it’s obviously just a matter of time before the dynamic duo are standing before a judge.

As for the poor Corvette, well, it didn’t fare so well either. The entire passenger side of the sports car is essentially ripped off, with the front fender and most of the rear of the car completely missing. Both of the wheels and tires on that side of the Corvette are laying on the ground nearby, though the passenger side door is still intact. This C8 can likely be fixed, but we imagine it will wind up being sold in a future salvage auction, given its current condition.

On the bright side, at least these wannabe car thieves didn’t get away. Far too often, these vehicles and those that steal them disappear into the night, and the cars themselves are rarely recovered. But in this case, at least, the two thieves that tried to get away with a brand new Corvette won’t be making another attempt anytime soon.
