Supercharged C5 Corvette Z06 Keeps up with Modern Machines

This modified Corvette is further proof that the C5 platform is still an excellent and viable alternative to newer cars.

In the great horsepower wars of recent years, it’s easy to get left behind. We’ve come so far in such little time that even top-of-the-line sports cars like the C5 Corvette Z06 seems, well, under powered by today’s standards. But that power gap is easy to close, thanks to a prodigious aftermarket. And that’s exactly what the owner of this killer Corvette, profiled in this video from My Corvette Life, has done courtesy of a few carefully selected mods.

The former Honda S2000 fan has always been drawn to the C5 Corvette Z06, but couldn’t pass this one up. Which probably had something to do with the fact that it was already supercharged. “When I bought it with the supercharger it was running around 6-7 psi,” he said. “It was making 575 hp to the rear wheels with just the blower on 91 pump gas.”

A good start, indeed. But this new ‘Vette owner wasn’t quite satisfied with that, and began making additional mods to squeeze out more power. “Since then I’ve added a blower cam, methanol/alcohol control kit, and all the supporting mods. I went ahead and had it retuned and now it’s making right around 650 hp at 10 psi.”

The result is a car that’s quite capable of keeping up with more modern muscle. And likely at a much cheaper price. But perhaps more importantly, it’s also another reminder that the C5 Corvette is still quite an awesome and highly capable platform. Even in today’s horsepower-obsessed world!
