Corvettes and Speeding Tickets: A Never-Ending Issue

Corvette and Police Officer

Speeding, paint color, and cops: Is it par for the course to get caught speeding in Corvettes, or are they targeted?

We all know that speeding in excess is inherently dangerous. Some of us are rather more prudent in admitting guilt. However, you always risk that you’ll be nabbed regardless of the ride you’re in. But does a low, bright-red sports car tip the scales against your favor?

Recently, one of our members was on the receiving end of a ticket that was, quite frankly, ridiculous. The infraction called for the punishment of forum member “gwalsh88” for a total of 6 mph over the speed limit. Six. Yeah…

Determined to beat the ticket, gwalsh88 took the option of a court date — which took 6 months to get — and found the officer was not present. Voila! Case dismissed. But this ticket didn’t come without its own tiny bit of controversy.

Going along in his Corvette, gwalsh88 claims he was following another car that was traveling at precisely the same speed and was possibly picked out in traffic simply because he was in a yellow ‘Vette.

Of course, the other forum members chimed in, including current and former law enforcement officers. Drawing a consensus among them, it seems that Corvettes simply pick the luck of the draw when traveling in packs. Or they simply deserved the ticket they received.

We want to know what you think. Is it easier to get away with a few extra MPH in a nondescript car or is it just coincidence that a yellow Corvette got yanked?
